Conrad Childers

Poland - Conrad Childers, 84, of Poland, died Saturday morning, October 3, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Conrad was born March 26, 1931 in Youngstown, a son of David and Grace Watson Childers. He was raised in Youngstown and lived in Pittsburgh, Pa., Tuscon, AZ, and Fresno, CA., before returning to the area and to Poland in 1969.

He attended South High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp from 1948 until 1952. Conrad was a survivor of the Chosin Reservoir. After the Marines, he attended Youngstown University, University of Arizona, and Fresno State. In 1976 Conrad founded Shane Security Service, Inc. He retired in 2006 as President and C.E.O.

Conrad was a member of the Crime Clinic of Greater Youngstown where he served as trustee for 30 years and as president from 1978-1979. He was a member of Wick Lodge F&AM 481, and a 32nd degree Mason of the Valley of Youngstown Scottish Rite. He was also a member of Al Koran Shrine and Youngstown Shrine Club. He was a member and past president of the Cambium Club of Youngstown, and a member of the R.O.M.E.O Club.

His first wife, the former Geraldine Cantor, whom he married February 14, 1953 died May 27, 2002; Conrad leaves his second wife, the former Joanne Danko Garrett, whom he married October 26, 2004; one son, John Childers of Poland; three step-children, Don (Monica) Ferrick of Lowellville, Bobbie Jo Toth of Boardman, and Terry (Korinda) Ferrick of Struthers; one brother, David J. (Marie) Childers of Howland; two grandsons, Michael J. and John D. Childers; eight step-grandchildren, Jason (Chrissie) Ferrick, Jamie Lynn (Jeremy) Ferrick, John Lochrane, Robbie (Tosha) Lochrane, Brandy (Eddie) Jorge, Terry Matthew and Jessica Ferrick, and Jason (Tina) Lind; and sixteen step- great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife, Conrad was preceded in death by a son, James Childers and a step-grandson, Joey Lochrane.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:30 A.M. at the Lake Park Cemetery Chapel with Dr. Charles McGowan officiating.
