Youngstown - Claude Henry Crittenden, 86, of Brownlee Woods, died late Saturday evening, December 21, 2013 at Allan Dell Assisted Living in Newton Falls.
Mr. Crittenden was born May 10, 1927 in Youngstown, a son of Lester T. Crittenden, Sr. and Esther R. Blakeslee Crittenden.
He was a graduate of Struthers High School, Class of 1946. Henry was inducted into the Navy before graduation but received his diploma. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was recalled in 1950 for the Korean War. After the war, Mr. Crittenden worked for 30 years at Youngstown Sheet and Tube as a roll turner.
He was a member of Faith Community Church in Brownlee Woods. Henry was a member of Sulgrave Lodge No. 696 F&AM, Aut Mori Grotto, American Legion No. 737 in Lake Milton, and V.F.W. No. 3538 in Struthers.
His wife, the former Carol M. Thomas, whom he married March 20, 1947, died January 27, 2012. Henry is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Tom) Keller of Lake Milton; sister, Patricia (Roddy) Naples of Struthers; brother, Lester T. Crittenden, II of Poland; daughter-in-law, Sandy Crittenden of Cornelius, NC; brother-in-law, Frank Brownlee of Florida; five grandchildren, Christy (Dr. Jeff) Mocny, Jason (Danielle Drake) Keller, Amy (Eric) Moore, Dustin (Jami) Keller, and Cara (Mike) Dempsey; and four great-grandchildren, Jackson Mocny, Zoey Keller, Abigail Moore, and Landon Keller.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Crittenden was preceded in death by his son, Ray Crittenden; sister, Betty Brownlee; and sister-in-law, Alma Crittenden.
Private services will be held on Thursday for the family. Entombment will be at Lake Park Cemetery.
