Poland - Clarence Higham, 83, of Poland, died August 12, 2009 at the Hospice House.
Mr. Higham was born June 2, 1926 in Youngstown, a son of Thomas and Catherine Ramsdale Higham. He has been a resident of Poland since 1951.
He was a 1944 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy during World War II from June of 1944 until June of 1946.
Mr. Higham had a lifelong career in automotive sales and leasing working for Strausbaugh Dodge Motor Company for 26 years and most recently for Sweeney Chevy Buick Pontiac GMC of Youngstown.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post No. 15, and was past president of the Poland Kiwanis. Mr. Higham enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
His wife, the former Frieda Joseph, whom he married May 7, 1950, died September 20, 1992. Mr. Higham is survived by his four daughters, Janet Burky, Linda (James) Timmins, both of Berlin Center, Joanne (James) Pearsol of Columbus, and Dr. Carol (Michael) Azar of Pittsburgh; and six grandchildren, Jennalee Burky, Maxwell, Jacob, and Zachary Timmins, and Benjamin and Natalie Azar.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Higham; and his grandson, Nicholas Timmins.
Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Poland with Pastor Paul Burgeson officiating. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland and Monday from 9-9:45 a.m. at the church.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mr. Higham's name to the Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, Ohio 44514.
