Poland - Claire S. Chorba, 73, of Poland, died January 1, 2011 at her residence.
Mrs. Chorba was born August 10, 1937 in Mahanoy City, PA, a daughter of Frank and Clara Pribula Krage and moved to New Jersey as a child.
While in New Jersey, she worked for Rahway State Prison as a secretary for many years. She also was a talented seamstress, working from her home, specializing in making wedding dresses. She lived in New Jersey until 1977 when she and her husband moved the family to North Carolina for his employment. They resided in North Carolina until 1999 when they moved to Maine and then to Poland in 2005. While in North Carolina and Maine, Mrs. Chorba worked for Walmart.
She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown, where she belonged to Sisters in Grace, was a lector, and a volunteer for making pierogie. She also regularly attended the 1st Friday Meeting at Antone's.
Mrs. Chorba was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting. She shared many of her beautiful creations with family, friends, and donated many hats, scarves, and prayer shawls to charities including nursing homes, the battered women's shelters, and Poland Rotary.
Her husband, Robert A. Chorba, whom she married, October 5, 1957, died April 7, 2010. She leaves three sons, Andrew (Christine) Chorba of Canfield, Francis (Joan) Chorba of Cheraw, SC, and Timothy (Kathy) Chorba of Raleigh, NC; a daughter, Susan (James) Smith of Lexington, KY; ten grandchildren, Bobby, Kevin, Katie, Andrew, Eric, Danielle, Dallas, Morgan, Ashley, and Jessica; one great-grandchild, Landon; and a brother, Frank Krage of California.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert F. Chorba.
A Mass will be held Friday, January 7, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown.
Arrangements are being handled by the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland.
