Clair V. Reedy

d. September 19, 2010

Struthers - Clair V. Reedy, 85, of Struthers, died Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Clair V. "Herky" Reedy was born August 11, 1925 in Struthers, a son of the late Charles and Mary Magan Reedy.
A life-long area resident, Clair attended Struthers High School and worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube, first in the Campbell electric wire department and then the Blast Furnace. He later worked at Automatic Sprinkler, United Engineering, and then as a quality control inspector for General Motors, where he retired after 13 years of service. After retirement, Clair would pitch in and help with whatever was needed at MVG Auto Parts on Youngstown-Poland Road.
Clair was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre of operations during World War II. He was a member of Poland Masonic Lodge F&AM #766, the Aut Morri Grotto where he was a member of the Clown Unit and was affectionately known as "Herky the Clown". He was involved with the annual Aut Morri Grotto Circus held at the Struthers Field House and also "clowned around" through-out the community. For many years, he played the role of Santa Claus for local families and Christmas events. He was a member of the Internal Order of Odd Fellows, and the American Legion. He also was a member of the Struthers United Methodist Church.
In his early years, Clair enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing softball with the Poland United Methodist Church soft ball team. Clair's hobbies included gardening, fishing, camping and boating at Berlin Lake. He also found joy in creating balloon animals to brighten people's day. He was an avid sports-fan who loved the Cleveland Browns, Indians, Cavaliers, and the Scrappers where he was interviewed at this seasons opening game. He also enjoyed watching sports related programs, playing cards and completing jig-saw puzzles. Clair loved tinkering, not always finishing, multiple projects around the house; a trait that has been passed down to his grandchildren.
Clair is survived by his wife, the former Carol Baker Morrison, whom he married July 7, 2001; two step-daughters, Kim Morrison and Margaret (Eric) Porter all of Youngstown; one step-son, Mark Morrison of Elkhart, IN; three sisters, Alma Hvisdak of Austintown, Dorothy Mitchell of Youngstown, and Shirley (Raymond "Skip") Linebaugh of Poland; one brother Lloyd (Eva) Reedy of Liberty; two grandchildren, Mike and Heather Shiminsky; four step-grandchildren, Kelly Morrison, Erin Morrison, Matthew Morrison, and Ryan Porter.
In addition to his parents, Clair's first wife, the former Donna Jean Miller, whom he married September 25, 1948 died January 3, 1996. Clair was also preceded in death by one daughter, Jean Shiminsky; one son, James Reedy; five sisters, Phyllis Reedy, Bernice Bertchy, Margaret Yurick, Henrietta Wood, and Mary Lou Adams; and two brothers, Paul and Randolph Reedy.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM followed by a Masonic service, and Thursday from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Davidson-Becker funeral home in Struthers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11:00 AM at the funeral home, with Raymond "Skip" Linebaugh officiating. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for an informal luncheon, following the funeral service, at the Davidson-Becker Family Center.
Clair's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Maplecrest Nursing Home staff and to Dr. Ricciardi and staff for making it possible for him to return home and enjoy quality time with his friends and family.
Contributions may be made to the Aut Mori Grotto, P.O. Box 3422, Boardman, Ohio 44513 or to the Struthers United Methodist Church, 33 Sexton Street, Struthers, Ohio 44471.
