POLAND - Christine G. Johns, 85, passed away peacefully, Sept. 16, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Mrs. Johns was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Poland, a daughter of Joseph and Anna Hruby Mihalov.
She was a 1944 Poland Seminary High School graduate, where she played basketball. Christine worked for the family business, Mihalov Dairy for many years. She went on to work at McKelvey¹s in Youngstown for 11 years. Later in life, she worked as a home health caregiver.
Christine was Catholic and attended the Holy Trinity Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and reading, but most importantly, spending time with her family.
Christine is survived by her husband, William H. of Poland, whom she married in 1961; three daughters, Susan (John) Sandquist of Canfield, Karen Johns of Poland, and Barbara (Richard) Rubenstahl of Rootstown; three grandchildren, Shannon Sandquist-Presley, John Sandquist Jr., and Scott Sandquist; one great-grandchild, Macailin Sandquist; several nieces and nephews; and her K9, Roxy.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Andrew J.
Mihalov, I. Charles Mihalov, Joseph B. Mihalov Jr., Agnes Skokan, Catherine Urban, Dorothy Kolarik, and Roseann Mihalov.
A prayer service will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.
at the Holy Trinity Church. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
