Chester Stadnik

Struthers - Chester Stadnik, 92, of Struthers, died Tuesday afternoon, April 4, 2017 at his home with his loved ones by his side.

Chester was born June 2, 1924 in Youngstown, a son of Paul and Catherine Janocha Stadnik.

Raised on the Southside, Chester attended Wilson High School until he enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific as an Oil King on the BB 62 USS New Jersey and later the USS Fargo. He was honorably discharged in 1949 after six years of service.

Returning to the area, Chester worked as a Stationary Engineer for Republic Steel for 36 years and retired in 1986.

Chester was a member and usher at St. John's Episcopal Church in Youngstown.

Chester was a man dedicated to his work, to his family, and his friends. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and always said, "if you have nothing good to say, then say nothing at all." He was self-taught, a fix-it man, an innovator. Chester loved to work with his hands, puttering around the house, the garage, and the outdoors, finding solutions to all life's complication. He enjoyed gardening, making horseradish and fishing with his buddies in Canada. Chester's greatest love was his family, he was devoted husband and father. He was a committed and supportive grandfather, who provided moral guidance to his grandchildren.

Chester leaves his wife of over 66 years, Sidonia Joan Forred, whom he married September 2, 1950; two daughters, Linda (Wade) Willis of Denton, TX and Patti Hian of Austintown; four grandchildren, Mikol Scardina of Struthers, Alex Scardina of Austintown, and Travis and Taylor Willis, both of Denton, TX; and two sisters, Helen Groski of Austintown and Jane (Chuck) Popa of Liberty.

In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by his brothers, John Kalonsky, Edward, Theodore and Teofil Stadnik; and a sister, Lottie Stadnik.

A Memorial Services will be held Friday, 2:00 PM at St. John's Episcopal Church with Rev. Gayle Catinella officiating.

Friends will be received Friday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church.
