CHESTER RUTANA âa�" 85 POLAND âa�" Chester Rutana, age 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born Feburary 7, 1922 in Youngstown, a son of Walter and Mary Przepiora Rutana and moved to New Springfield in 1929. Mr. Rutana worked as a supervisor for General Fireproofing until 1962, when he then started Rutana Landscaping. He was known for his work at several area churches as well as at the Poland Riverside Cemetery. Over the years he sponsored several Poland Little League baseball teams. He was a founding member of the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New Middletown and a former member of the Holy Family Church in Poland. Mr. Rutana was a member of the Poland Knights of Columbus Council 4471, where he was named into the Hall of Fame in 1981. He was married to the former Theresa Harnutovsky for 57 years before her passing in March of 2006. Mr. Rutana leaves his three children, Theresa K. Rutana of Poland, Mary Kay (Michael) Thomas of Cincinnati, Thomas L. Rutana of New Middletown, three grandchildren, Lillian and Joseph Rutana of North Benton, Michael J. Thomas of Clearwater FL., three sisters, Julie Sakoman of North Lima, Lottie Kurjan of Poland, Eleanor Spicko of Newton Falls, two brothers, Stan Rutana of New Springfield, and John Rutana of Poland. Besides his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ted Rutana, who died November of 2006. Family and friends may call Monday from 9:00 âa�" 9:45 am, at the St. Paul the Apostle Church, New Middletown, where Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am.
