Lowellville - Chester S. Kilgore, 85, of Lowellville, died December 28, 2009 at the emergency room of St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center after suffering a stroke.
Chester was born March 19, 1924, the son of the late Dorothy Bencinic Bistarkey.
He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union No. 66 for 60 years. Chester worked as an operating engineer for many local contractors in the area and retired in the mid 1980's.
Chester was a United States Army veteran and was honorably discharged in May of 1947.
Chester was a lifelong member of the Bessemer Croatian Club and the Johnson Club in Hillsville, where he enjoyed spending time with his friends. More than anything, he loved spending time with his two children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In his earlier years, he also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
His wife, the former Ida Lois Jones, whom he married March 20, 1948, died July 9, 2009. He leaves one son, Tim (Terri) Kilgore of Lordstown; one daughter, Debbie Smith of Springfield; six grandchildren, Todd (Barbara) Kilgore of Gaithersburg, MD, Matthew (Karie) Kilgore of Towson, MD, Brian Smith of Springfield, Jodi (Aaron) Smith of Jacksonville, FL, Stacie Kilgore of Lordstown, and Trace Kilgore of Lordstown; five great-grandchildren, Michael Kilgore, Karisa Kilgore, Phaedra Kilgore, Tristan Smith, and Dagny Smith.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland with the Rev. Randy Crum officiating.
Family and friends will be received Saturday from noon to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
