Charles William Woodman

STRUTHERS-Charles William Woodman went peacefully to be with the Lord on December 11, 2012 following an amazing spiritual journey in which he shared his courage, faith and hope and which proved God's grace and unconditional love to all.

Born May 27, 1922, Charles was a lifelong resident of Youngstown. He is preceded in death by his parents Thaddeus A. Woodman and Margaret Beach Woodman, daughter Margaret Dorrance Woodman, siblings Thaddeus A. Woodman Jr.(Billie), George B. Woodman and Margaret W. Loeb (David).

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy, children, Rev. Charles W. Woodman Jr. (Cindy), Mary W. McLoughlin (Thomas), Amy W. Schocken (Louis), 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, as well as a loving extended family.

A graduate of The Rayen School and The Ohio State University Fischer School of Business; Charles and his father and brother Thad were partners in the Woodman Insurance Agency.

Charles was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Chief Usher. His community service included being the past president of the Chartered Life Underwriters Association and a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Youngstown, Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Ohio Cultural Alliance and an Adopt-A-School volunteer.

As a young man he attained the rank of Eagle Scout and scouting remained an important part of his life. Charles was a veteran of World War II where he served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. He recently participated in the Honor Flight to the WWII memorial in Washington, D.C. An avid golfer, he regularly golfed with the Kiwanis and Protestant Church Golf Leagues beyond his 90th birthday.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at The First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown. Friends may greet the family prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Memorial gifts may be given for the Woodman Memorial Outdoor Chapel at Camp Stambaugh Boy Scout Reservation. Contributions may be sent to Greater Western Reserve Council, 4930 Enterprise Blvd. NW, Warren, OH 44481 c/o Woodman Memorial.
