Charles Shellogg Jr. of Poland, Ohio passed away on October 27, in his sleep after a brief stay at the Cleveland Clinic from heart complications; he was 89. A Youngstown native, Chuck was a graduate of Chaney High School and attended Youngstown State University. Shellogg (Sergeant) served in the Armed Forces and Reserves from 1951- 1957. After basic training he married Bette and built a family and career in Youngstown, Ohio. He joined First Federal Savings and Loan Association in 1956 and served as a loan officer then Vice President and Manager of Newport Branch, and was eventually named President and Chair of the Board from 1986-1996. During his Presidency he provided leadership for the saving and loan’s initial public offering to the financial corporation known as First Place Bank of Youngstown. Until his retirement he ensured that the same values drove the bank’s work- with people central to the mission. Among his many civic and professional involvements, Shellogg was a Board of Directors of the Youngstown Area Chamber of Commerce, Director of the Credit Bureau of Youngstown, and Treasurer for the United Negro College Fund. He was a member and past President of the Uptown Kiwanis Club, and held memberships in the Buckeye Elks and the Society of Residential Appraisers. He was a member of Holy Family Church in Poland, Ohio. During his 40 year career he most valued meeting and helping many area residents receive their first home loan. Personally, he was most proud of his daughters Holly Shellogg (Bob Bielecki) Kathy Shellogg (Bob Oberst) and Wendy Joseph (Greg) and his grandchildren Alex Shellogg Oberst, Grant Joseph (Alexis) Jackie Joseph Clark (Ray) and Amanda Joseph. He leaves his sister MaryAnn Komara and two sister’s in law Margaret Brooks and Ann Perusek (William). He is preceded in death by his wife Bette and parents, Charles and Mary(Hnatiw) Shellogg.
Private services were held for the family at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home Poland Chapel with Fr. Philip Rogers officiating.
