Campbell - Charles "Cha-Chi" Shasho, 80, died Saturday morning, June 28, 2014 at the Hospice House.
Mr. Shasho, affectionately known by many as "Cha-Chi" was born January 10, 1934 in Youngstown, a son of Alex and Katherine Estock Shasho. He lived on the Southside of Youngstown until moving to Campbell in 1993.
He was a 1954 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Mr. Shasho previously worked for Wean United, Republic Steel, and General Electric. After retirement, he worked in the produce department for the former Santisi's Market on Mahoning Ave and was a member of the UFCW Local No. 880.
He was a member of American Croatians Citizens Club and very proud of his Serbian Croatian heritage. Cha-Chi had a great passion for music and played Serbian Croatian Tamburitza music since he was in high school. He also made his own tambura instruments. He played in many bands throughout the years, the most recent being the Veseli Zice Orchestra. When not playing music, he also enjoyed his Sunday visits with his grandchildren, gardening, canning, fishing, making homemade sausage and kielbasa, and barbecuing lamb on the spit.
He is survived by his fiancée, Barbara Ferko of Campbell; four children, Lori (Mike) Maas of Newton Falls, Terri Shasho of Austintown, Charlene (Jerry) Savo of Austintown and Charles T. (Kristie) Shasho of Youngstown; seven sisters, Anne Bailey of Sebring, Helen Weibel of Alliance, Violet Sobinovsky of Austintown, Delores (Chet) Leone of Brentwood, TN, Joanne Garreffa of Alliance, Gerry (Don) Jewell of Alliance, and Sandy Berry of Austintown; and six grandchildren, Christiana, Dominic, Cassie, and Nick Savo and Rocco and Tyler Shasho.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred "Pat" Swedik and Martha Bowman; and two brothers, Michael and Alex Shasho Jr.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
