POLAND - Charles H. McIntire, 83 of Poland, formerly of Canfield, died Wednesday morning, July 15, 2009 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boardman.
Mr. McIntire was born January 30, 1926 in Struthers, a son of John and Coral Bell McIntire, and was a life long area resident.
He was 1944 graduate of Struthers High School. Upon graduation, Mr. McIntire enlisted in the United States Army,where he was stationed in the South Pacific and Japan. During World War II and had the honor to transport General McArthur. He received the Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, two Overseas Service Bars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Army Occupation Medal. Mr. McIntire owned and operated the C. H. McIntire Company for 47 years, which promoted and sold architectural building products. He was a member of Boardman Rotary Club and a former Past President, and a Paul Harris Fellow recipient. He was a member of the Struthers VFW, Struthers A.C. Club, and a former member of the Struthers Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Frances I. Komp, whom he married May 16, 1950. Six children, Nancy (Bill) Cipperley of Boardman, Karen (Greg) Piette of South Port, NC, Mary Lynn (Tim) Whetstone of Columbus, Robert (Rosemary) McIntire of Fayetteville, GA Joyce (Phil) Faulkner of Norcross, GA, Judy (Clark) White of Chagrin Falls and, one brother John "Bud" (Rosemary) McIntire of Blufton, SC; 13 Grandchildren- Katie (Paul) Butto, Jeff Cipperley, Hannah Cipperley, Scott Whetstone, Cory Whetstone, Cody Piette, Abby Piette, Tyler Piette, Claire Faulkner, Bess McIntire, Claudia White, Harrison White, Tucker White and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Fritz Kurtz, and one sister Jean Stansell.
Services will be held Saturday at 9:30 am at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers with Rev. Charles Lundquist officiating. Interment will follow at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Friends will be received Friday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
