Struthers - Charles Democko, 80, of Struthers, died Sunday afternoon at the Hospice House.
Mr. Democko was born April 19, 1929 in Struthers, a son of Paul and Catherine Turchan Democko. He was a life-long resident of Struthers.
He was a 1947 graduate of Struthers High School and received his gemologist certificate from the Gemologist Institute of America in Santa Monica California. Mr. Democko co-owned and was president of D&S Diamond Specialist Inc.in Boardman for 40 years retiring in 1991. Mr. Democko was a member of the GCU and was an avid golfer. He was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers and a former member of St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church in Campbell. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Besides his wife, the former Evelyn Dorothy Ceplece whom he married July 8, 1950; he leaves two daughters, Karen (Timothy) Munroe of Poland and Christine (William) Reimann of San Antonio, TX; three sons, Charles Democko of San Francisco, CA, Richard (Kim) Democko of Hubbard, and Philip Democko of Struthers; two sisters, Sophie Savikas of Tallahassee, FL and Marion Dzurnak of Villa Marie, PA; two brothers, Steve Democko of Struthers and Robert J Democko of Boardman; and eight grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Mr. Democko was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Savasko and Margaret Dobos, and three brothers, Joseph, Paul, and John Democko.
Services will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers, with Fr. Kevin Peters officiating. Interment will follow at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley Hospice House, Sharrot Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
