Charles R. Chambers Sr., 70 Struthers- Charles R. Chambers Sr., 70 of Struthers died early Monday morning at his residence. Mr. Chambers was born April 6, 1933 in Youngstown, a son of Chester and Dora Harrington Chambers. He was raised on the Westside and lived in New York for over 40 years until returning to this area and to Struthers in 1995. He was a 1952 graduate of Chaney High School and served in the United States Navy from 1952 until 1956. He was recalled to serve during the âa�A"Bay of Pigsâa�A� from 1961 until 1962. Mr. Chambers was a Signalman for the New York City Transit for 20 years and then worked for the Port Authority Transit Hudson until his retirement in 1995. For 2 years he was an electrician for Jersey City State College. He was a member of the Poland Masonic Lodge F&AM #766 and the Reliance Masonic Lodge F&AM #776 in New York. He also served as Past Master in New York. He was a member of the Mahoning Valley Civil Round Table, North/South Skirmish Association and the Civil War Weaponry competition. He was a member of the New Middletown Farmers and Sportsman Club and a member of the Struthers Presbyterian Church. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling, wood working and a good game of Cribbage. Besides his wife the former Anita Proverbs Burch whom he married April 8, 1995 he leaves two daughters, Theresa and Kathryn Chambers both of Ozone Park, New York; one step-daughter, Bonnie Reardon of Woodstock, Georgia; one son, Charles Chambers, Jr., of Massapequa, New York; one step-son, Jeff Burch of Boardman; two brothers, Arnold Chambers of Liberty and Kenneth Chambers of Mineral Ridge; one half-brother, John Harrington and four grandchildren, Erin, Joseph, Tina and Shelley Reardon. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 6:30 PM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-6 PM where a Masonic service will be held at 6 PM. Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St. Boardman, OH 44512 or to the Struthers Presbyterian Church, 110 Poland Ave., Struthers, OH 44471.
