Charles "Chip" D. Barber, 62
POLAND - Charles "Chip" D. Barber, 62, died Jan. 12, 2014, at Akron City Hospital.
Mr. Barber was born Nov. 14, 1951, in Akron, a son of William and Augusta Mullen Barber.
He attended Struthers schools and in 1970 graduated from Maine West High School in Des Plains, Ill.
Chip worked for 40 years as a motor inspector, retiring in 2011 from Arcelor Mittal Steel in Warren.
He loved his family above all. His other interests included gardening, hunting, fishing, boating, bowling, and Cleveland Indians and Browns. Chip was also a little league coach.
He leaves a daughter, Melissa (Brian) Dougherty of Rootstown; a son, Charles Barber of Austintown; three grandchildren, Hannah Dougherty, Olivia Barber, and Zachary Dougherty; two brothers, William (Donna) Barber of Spring City, Tenn. and Ted Barber of Austintown; and his ex-wife, Diane Hurite Barber.
Besides his parents, Chip was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Services will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers.
Friends and family will be received Friday from 4 to 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff at Akron City Hospital including Palliative Care nurses and Dr. Tucker.
