Cecilia Amedia

Boardman - Cecilia Amedia, 93 formerly of Hubbard, died October 8, 2015 at Sunrise Assisted Living. Cecilia, the daughter of the late Anthony and Angelina (Lagana) Costarella, was born January 27, 1922 in Girard. She attended Touch Heaven Canfield Church.

Cecilia graduated from Girard High School in 1939, and entered nurses training and graduated from Youngstown Hospital Association School of Nursing in 1943. During WWII, she followed her husband through his OCS and pilot training, working as an RN in community hospitals nationally. She continued to work both as a private duty nurse and in local hospitals for nearly twenty years. She then changed careers, and returned to school where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Education from Youngstown College in 1963, and later gained her Master's Degree in Counseling from Youngstown University. She served was an educator first for Youngstown College, and later for the Hubbard schools from 1963 until her retirement in 1987. In Hubbard, she initially taught health education, and later served as a guidance counselor. Cecilia was a member of the Reserve Officer Association Ladies Club, the Trumbull County Teachers Association and participated as support to her husband in many community activities including The Salvation Army and Easter Seals.



She leaves her two sons, Chester (Marilyn) Amedia Jr of Boardman and Frank (Lorilee) Amedia of Austintown; five grandchildren, Adrian Amedia, Carisa Miklusak, Michal Amedia, Keshet Lemberg and Samuel Amedia; and six great-grandchildren, Avery, Fallon, Zakarie, Gabriel, Anika, Asher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Chester Anthony Amedia on November 18, 2004; her sisters, Erma Drugan, Victoria Lubonovich, Julia Brass and Virginia Szymanski; brothers, Virgil, Adam and Joseph Costarella; and her grandson, Christian Amedia.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10am at Touch Heaven Canfield Church, 10 Skyline Dr. Canfield, OH 44406 with her son, Pastor Frank Amedia officiating. Interment will follow in Poland Riverside Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Friday from 5-8pm at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St. Poland, OH 44514 and prior to the service from 9-9:45am on Saturday at the church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Touch Heaven-Africa School, 10 Skyline Dr. Canfield, OH 44406, ( www.touchheaven.com ) which provides education, meals and clothing for indigent children in isolated African communities.
