Cecil Harry Greenaway

Youngstown - Cecil Harry Greenaway, "Zippy" 86, of Youngstown, died peacefully early Sunday morning, February 14, 2016 at Briarfield Manor.

Cecil was born June 3, 1929 in Youngstown, a son of the late Cecil and Margaret Bradford Greenaway.

A 1948 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Cecil served in the United States Navy. He worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube and then as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service at the Struthers Post Office for 25 years. After retirement he worked as a funeral associate for Becker Funeral Homes.

Cecil was a member of Faith Community Church where he served as Elder Emeritus, President Consistory, and Youth Fellowship Advisor. He was a member of the Choir and the Si-Mar Sunday School Class. Cecil was a member of the Argus Lodge F&AM #545 in Canfield, the Aut Mori Grotto where he was Zippy the Clown, past Monarch and Chairman of ticket sales for the Circus. He was also a member of White Shrine #62 of Poland. Cecil enjoyed golfing, bowling and softball.

Cecil's wife of 48 years, the former Jo Ann Shramo, whom he married May 10, 1952, died March 22, 2000; he leaves two daughters, Sandra (David) Beaver of Struthers and Cynthia (David) Halt of Carmel, IN; two sons, Carl (Donna) Greenaway of Boardman and Robert (Ellissa Scott) Greenaway of Struthers; sister, Anna Mae Jones of Bradenton, FL; seven grandchildren, Carl (Theresa) Greenaway Jr., David Halt, Jr., Carrie Greenaway, Eric (Laura) Halt, Christine (Kevin) Daviduke, Nicholas Greenaway and Gina Greenaway; and five great-grandchildren, Taylor and Kaitlyn Greenaway, Adyson and Andrew Halt, and Olivia Jo Daviduke.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11:00 AM at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman with Pastor Mary Jo Berry officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home where the Argus Lodge will have a Masonic service at 7:00 PM.

Cecil's family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care that the staff at The Inn at Ironwood provided during Cecil's stay.
