STRUTHERS - Catherine Rose "Kay" Stanton, 88, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2017, at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman.
Kay was born on June 6, 1928. Raised in Youngstown, she was a 1946 graduate of Chaney High School.
Kay was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert J. (Bob) Stanton in 2014. Bob and Kay were married for 62 years, exchanging their marriage vows on July 12, 1951 at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers, where they were dedicated parishioners for over 50 years.
Kay was also preceded in death by her sisters Ann Resetar and Theresa Koranicki.
Kay began her career as a telephone operator at Ohio Bell in 1947, but then dedicated herself to raising her four children from 1953 to 1968. Kay joined Mahoning National Bank in 1968 as a secretary, working there for 26 years, and rising through the ranks to become branch manager in 1983. She retired in 1993.
Kay was an accomplished bridge player for over 50 years, and a member of the Youngstown Bridge Club and the American Contract Bridge League.
Above all, Kay’s most cherished times were hosting 25 years of Christmases at the family home in Struthers, where children and grandchildren would gather for that special family celebration and create memories that will last forever. Kay lived the motto of "family first" her entire life.
Kay will be dearly missed by her entire family; daughter Mary Kay (Alden) Luzi of Wauwatosa, WI, and sons Thomas (Nathalie) Stanton of Powell, OH, Robert (Shari) Stanton of Washington, MI, and Neil (Stacy) Stanton of Canfield, OH; and her eleven "precious" grandchildren, Tommy Stanton, Mara (Jason) Luedeke, Scott (Alecia) Luzi, Drew Luzi, Jacob, Clay (Michele), Wesley, Bradley, Camille, Ian, and Sophie Stanton.
Kay’s family would also like to express their sincere appreciation for the care and friendship provided by Shepherd of the Valley’s staff and the care provided by Dr. Santuccio Ricciardi and staff.
