Lowellville- Catherine E. "Katie" Sheldone, 86, of Lowellville, passed away Sunday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center surrounded by her family.
Katie was born April 29, 1923 in Dawson, NM, a daughter of James and Michelina DiCicco Bisconti. Her family moved to Lowellville when she was four years old.
Katie was a homemaker and had worked at Gorants Candy for five years and for the Board of Elections. During World War II, she worked at one of the areas manufacturing plants. She was a member of the Ladies Mount Carmel Club and the Mount Carmel Ladies Bocce League. She was a member and sacristan of the Holy Rosary Church.
Katie enjoyed playing bocce, cards, and bingo. Her family especially loved her pies and wedding soup. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Katie was devoted to the unity of her family and to her strong Christian faith.
Her husband, Sam C. Sheldone, whom she married February 25, 1941, passed away September 19, 1997. She leaves two daughters, Lorraine (Daniel) Mamula of Struthers and Denise Richard of New Middletown; one son, Joseph (Sandy) Sheldone of Poland; two brothers, Nick (Violet) Bisconti and Jim Bisconti, all of Lowellville; thirteen grandchildren, Sherry (Doug) Weitzman, Dan (Stacie) Mamula, Traci Whitacre, Leslie, Vicki, Joseph, and Anthony Sheldone, Nicole (Chris) Strayer, Brandy Richard, Ron (Sarah) Richard Jr., Diane (Bob) Dunn, Donald Oneil, and Daniel Oneil; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Catherine was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl and Ernest Ramuno and Tony Bisconti; and one sister, Lola Gross.
Services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville and 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church. Interment will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Lowellville.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
