Youngstown - Catherine D. Niemi, 89, died Friday morning on December 13, 2013 at Hospice House.
Mrs. Niemi was born January 20, 1924 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of Paul and Catherine Wiles Klem.
She lived in the Youngstown area most of her life and was a homemaker, while taking care of her four step-children. Catherine loved to travel and play cards with her family and friends. She was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church.
Catherine married John Niemi September 15, 1951 who died in October 1987. She is survived by her three sisters, Eleanor Chambers of Austintown, Anna Mae Kearney of Youngstown and Helen Botsko of Struthers; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Catherine was preceded in death by her three step-sons, Herbert Niemi, Kenneth Niemi and Donald Niemi, one step-daughter, Delores McClain, two sisters, Donna Jean Johnson and Betty Anderson; and three brothers, Paul, Francis, Robert; and an infant brother and sister.
Services will be held at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland on Monday at 2pm with Father Bernard Gaeta officiating. Interment will follow in the Lake Park Cemetery.
Friends will be received 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at the funeral home.
