Youngstown -Carol Lee Fecko entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 2, 2024.
She was born in Youngstown on January 29, 1944, the youngest daughter of Stephen and Anna Fecko.
She was raised in Youngstown and graduated from St. Patrick Grade School and Hillman Junior High School before attending South High School in Youngstown, Ohio. While at St. Patrick Grade School, she was the diocesan spelling bee champion and made her First Communion and Confirmation there as well. Carol was a member of St. Matthias Parish and was devoted to her Catholic faith. She had the gift of the purist of hearts in her daily life. She was a kind, generous, and compassionate person who had an unmatched unique sense of humor that brought many smiles to all who would be blessed to know her.
Carol enjoyed the simple things in life, and feeding her dear birdies each day was one of them. She also enjoyed many hobbies such as playing Bingo, and many arts and crafts. In 2023, she was awarded a ribbon at the Canfield Fair for an original drawing in color. The most exciting pastime was sending off her Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes entries in hopes of that "big win," vowing to pay each of our mortgages off if she won. Her unselfish heart shining! Carol also enjoyed collecting autographs of many sports and music personalities, especially the performers of the Lawrence Welk Show. She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys of yesteryear, the Cleveland Browns, and her Cleveland Indians. Her knowledge of sports was unbelievable. Carol also loved music and played the guitar and organ. In her teenage years, the sounds of Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson would be played on her record player most days, and she would dance away and sing. She truly was a number one fan. Carol also enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music, especially the music of the Steve Garchar Orchestra, who was her dear brother-in-law. Her favorite song was My Pretty Girl. She so enjoyed going to the many Polka and Slovak festivals and was an avid fan of the Polka and Slovak hours on the WKTL Struthers radio station each Saturday night. Her travels took her to California, Graceland in Memphis Tennessee, Nashville, Tennessee, Bainbridge Island, Washington State to visit her niece Carol Ann Isaacson, and to the shores of Brigantine, New Jersey to visit her niece, Marianne Murphy and her family.
Most of all Carol was so proud of her Slovak Heritage. In her younger years at family occasions, she would be the storyteller of yesterdays and memories. Her words were invaluable as she shared so much with all of us about our Slovak roots from Czechoslovakia, which she learned from her dear mother and all her days with her. Celebrating her 80th birthday milestone with her face lit up and so very happy is a memory we know she cherished.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, Stephen and Anna (Komara) Fecko; her siblings, brothers, John Fecko and Stephen Farmer; sisters, Mary Knight, Ann Gurak, Bette Samolyk, Dorothy Garchar, and Eleanor Osiniak.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her ten nieces and seven nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and many great-great nieces and nephews. Special to her heart was her niece, Linda Garchar, who was her devoted and loving caregiver and tried to make her later years as best and happy as possible. Our dearest aunt left us with a legacy of love to cherish in our hearts forever. She will be so very missed.
Our family would like to thank the many nurses at Briarfield at Ashley Circle for the wonderful love given to our dear aunt.
