A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Dominic Church for Carol A. Armbrecht. After a 19 year illness, she passed away peacefully on Monday at Hospice House.

Carol was born March 4, 1950 in Youngstown, a daughter of Albert and Angeline Ciarniello Salata. She graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1968 and was a proud honors graduate with a B.S.N. from Case Western Reserves' Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing in 1972. She received her master's degree in community health nursing from Texas Woman's University - Dallas and did additional studies at Kent State University. Carol started her career at University Hospitals of Cleveland and had worked locally at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She also taught nursing at YSU, Kent, Akron and Penn State branches. Later she became certified as a clinical nurse specialist in mental health nursing and started a career in counseling.

Carol volunteered with the Goodwill and was team mom for her daughter' softball teams.
She helped the Red Cross in the San Francisco Bay Area after the earth quake in the late 1980's and served on the Cultural Arts committee for Boardman Schools and the P.T.A.

She had articles published in nursing journals and textbooks, was a member of Sigma Theta Tau and Who's Who of American Women.

When healthy, Carol was a good sport and willing to try many activities with her friends. She took a genuine interest in everyone she met. After becoming ill her general nature motivated others to help care for her.

Her later years were spent with family and friends, working on her computer, listening to books on tape, reading with her husband, and staying alert to current events and world affairs. She loved receiving communion on Sundays from St. Dominic Eucharistic ministers and the visits from the Ladies of the Legion of Mary.

Carol leaves her husband Jim, whom she married May 26, 1972, her daughters Abby (Arik) Bord of Chico, CA and Karly Armbrecht of Columbia, SC. , her brothers, Albert (Diane) Salata of Naples, FL and Fred (Barbara) Salata of Santa Cruz, CA, brother and sister in law David and Linda Armbrecht.
