Struthers - Carmen Anthony Petrella, 80, of Struthers, died Monday evening, May 16, 2011 at Maplecrest Nursing Home.
Mr. Petrella was born August 5, 1930 in Struthers, a son of Carmine and Mary Petrella. He was a life-long resident of Struthers, living in the family home on Perry Street in Nebo, until moving to Maplecrest Nursing Home last July.
He was a 1948 graduate of Struthers High School and attended Youngstown State University. Mr. Petrella worked as a Shipping Department Supervisor for Strouss' for 38 years, retiring in 1986. After retirement, he worked part-time for the Struthers Police Department as a dispatcher until 2001.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers, where he was a member of the St. Nicholas Senior Citizens. Mr. Petrella was also a member of the Strouss' 25 Year Club, 3105 AARP, and the Sulmona Valley Club.
Mr. Petrella was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Petrella is survived by two sisters, Raffaela "Ruby" Yacovone of Cortland, NY and Concetta Coss of Struthers; one brother, Dominic (Phyllis) Petrella of Struthers; ten nieces and nephews, Paul (MaryAnn) Yacovone, Shirley Tutino, Joseph (Rosemarie) Manfredi, Jerry (Kathy) Coggi, Marie Rovnak, Yvonne Petrella, Eva (Paul) Gucwa, Doreen (Tony) Ghioldi, Brenda (Jim) Calai, and Thomas (Gena) Blough; twenty great nieces and nephews; and six great-great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Mr. Petrella was preceded in death by four sisters, Anna Coggi, Margaret Manfredi, Louise Blough, and Mary Petrella; and a niece, Carol Yacovone.
Services will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Interment will be at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 3:45-4:45 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
