Struthers - Carmen N. Giannini, 82, of Struthers, passed away Wednesday evening at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House with his family at his side.
Carmen was born Christmas Day, 1929 in Youngstown, a son of Angelo and Pasqualina Carbone Giannini.
Carmen was a January of 1948 graduate from East High School. A United States Army veteran, Carmen served in the Korean Conflict in July of 1951.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Youngstown.
Carmen had many jobs during his life time as he liked working alone and not confined in a plant or factory. He was employed at the Erie Railroad for 11 years and then for the City of Youngstown in the Street Department. He then went to work for Pesce Bakery and was there until the company burned in 1986. Carmen worked for the State Liquor Stores until they went private. His last job was with the YWCA. He loved the YWCA and enjoyed working with the employees.
In the 1980's Carmen was a councilman for Lowellville for 4 years. He loved the New York Yankees and would travel to Florida annually with his wife from January to April, in time for Spring Training. He was known for wearing a Yankee hat everywhere he went. He loved family and tried to help all his nieces and nephews with finding a job while going to school. He will be sadly missed.
It was while he worked at Pesce Bakery delivering bread to stores that he met his wife of 33 years, Marie Pitzulo Speziale whom he married July 28, 1979. Carmen became husband, father and grandfather all at once. Besides his wife Marie, Carmen leaves three step-sons, John (Karen) Speziale of Calcutta, Frank (Michelle) Speziale of Struthers, and Carmen (Crissie) Speziale of Mineral Ridge; five grandsons; one granddaughter, six great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Grace Giannini; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his father and mother, Carmen was preceded in death by three sisters, Dale Rulli, Josephine Gugulucello and Elsie Canale; two brothers, Matthew and Anthony Giannini; one grandson Dominic; and one great-grandson, Justin.
and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM at St Anthony of Padua Church with Msgr. Michael Cariglia officiating. Interment will follow at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Lowellville, Ohio.
Friends will be received Sunday from 4-7 PM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. Procession will leave the funeral Monday at 9:30 AM.
