Carl A. Testa, 88
Youngstown - Carl A. Testa, 88, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Health Center with his loving family by his side.
Carl was born September 15, 1930 in Campbell, Ohio, son of the late Carl and Fannie (Flask) Testa
He graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1950 and was a lifelong area resident.
Carl was an Army staff sergeant and squad leader during the Korean Conflict, serving in Company D, 10th Engineer Battalion, 3d Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Battle Star
After the war, Carl returned to the Youngstown area and worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube for 36 years, retiring in 1983. In 1969, Carl started theYoungstown Security Patrol Inc., where he was the owner and the president, until his retirement in 2016.
He was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers. He was a member of the Volunteer Civil Defense from 1957 to 1975, earning the rank of captain, a member of ITAM Post 3, 7538, and the Amvets 44. Carl was a volunteer for the Youngstown Auxillary Police, a Special Deputy for the Mahoning County Sheriff Department for over 25 years, past president of The Crime Clinic of Greater Youngstown, a member of Buckeye State Sheriff's Association, supervisor of security at the Canfield Fair Grandstands for over 50 year and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Vestibule Club, in Youngstown.
Carl is survived by his wife of 63 years the former Dolores T. Simeone, whom he married on June 18, 1955; a son, Gary A. (Susan) Testa of Boardman; two daughters, Gail M. (Tim) Sams of Youngstown and Diana L. Testa; and his grandson, Jeremy P. Sams.
Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Brajkovitch, and Marge Shiminsky.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel with Deacon John V. Terranova officiating. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5:00 to 6:45 pm at the funeral home, with services to follow.
Carl was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
