Carl David Jones, 92

BOARDMAN - Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Boardman for Carl David Jones, 92. He died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Mr. Jones was born Nov. 1, 1918, in Taylor, Pa., the son of Eugene and Margaret (Davison) Jones.
He resided at the Shepherd of the Valley on West Blvd. in Boardman.

Mr. Jones was a 1936 graduate of East High School in Youngstown and was employed by the Vindicator Newspaper and Printing Company as a Typesetter for 44 years. He was a member of the Communication Workers of America /International Typographical Union, and was also a past President of the Typographical Union Retirees.

Mr. Jones was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army Air Force from January 1942 to July 1945. He saw service with the 5th Fighter Squadron, 52nd Fighter Group, 15th U.S. Air Force in North Africa, and Italy and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. His awards include American Theater Campaign Medal, European-North Africa Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Jones was a lifelong member of the church and served on the Vestry and as Senior Warden. He was a 60 year member of the Sulgrave Masonic Lodge of Youngstown.
Mr. Jones was married to Alice J. Cole in 1946 until her death in 1981; and Clara L. Sferra from 1987 until her death in 2004.

He was survived by his nieces, Laura (Tony) Yetman of Kennesaw, Ga., and Sarah (Anton) Striegel of Cold Spring, Ky.; and a nephew, David (Wendy) Joyce of Woodstock, Ga.; and several step daughters and sons; Elaine Moran of Gaston, N.C., Mary Ellen Cormer of Haslett, Mich., James Sferra of Goshen and John Sferra of Howland.

He is also preceded in death by his sister, Edith E. Jones Joyce.

Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home and from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m. Monday at the Church. Both are in Boardman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Memorial Fund at St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, OH 44512.
