Youngstown-Carl Edward "Eddie" Berg Sr., 70, of Youngstown, died April 19, 2009 at the Hospice House after battling cancer for the last year.
Mr. Berg was born January 5, 1939 in Youngstown, a son of the late Irving and Helen Larson Berg. He was raised in Struthers and moved to Youngstown in 1985.
He was a 1957 graduate of Struthers High School. Mr. Berg worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube in the Seamless Mill for 23 years, retiring in 1981. He then worked for Sherwin Williams for 8 years first at the Liberty store and then the Boardman store until just last year.
He was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1961 to 1963.
Mr. Berg was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Struthers. He was an avid NASCAR fan rooting for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Carl Edwards and enjoyed working on cars.
His wife, the former JoAnn Pirozzi, whom he married October 4, 1985, died February 15, 1999.
He leaves his daughter, Sherri Adams of Youngstown; three sons, Carl "Eddie" Berg Jr. of Hubbard Twp., Steven (Diane) Hupp of West Lake, and James Fuschillo of Youngstown; two sisters, Linnea Berg of Struthers and Katherine (William) Whitfield of Berlin Center; seven grandchildren, Clifford John II, Dustin James, Autumn Jade, and Olivia Eleni Adams, Cory Logan Berg, and Caroline and Michelle Hupp; one great-grandson, Clifford John Adams III; two nieces, Linda (David) Lance and Donna Whitfield, both of Struthers; and one nephew, Bobby Whitfield of Sebring.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers, where family and friends will be received Thursday from 4-6:45 p.m. prior to the service.
Interment will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Lowellville.
