North Lima - Burnell L. "Chris" Chrisman, 93, formerly of Poland, died Sunday evening, January 24, 2016 at the Assumption Village Nursing Home.
Mr. Chrisman was born November 23, 1922 in Bryan, Ohio, a son of Dale and Lucy Brenner Chrisman. Burnell was raised in Bryan, moved to Lakewood in 1956, and later to Poland in 1977.
He was a graduate of Bryan High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during World War II in the South Pacific. A proud veteran, Burnell volunteered driving the van and taking patients to the VA clinic, and he was a member of the V.F.W and the American Legion.
Mr. Chrisman worked for Bessemer Cement in inside sales, retiring in 1982 after 32 years of service.
He was a former member of Lakewood Methodist Church and most recently a member of Poland United Methodist Church, and was very active in both churches. Mr. Chrisman also volunteered for many years giving blood and was recognized as a 10+ gallon blood donor.
Some of Burnell's hobbies included fishing, playing bridge, traveling with his wife, vegetable gardening, avidly reading, feeding the birds, and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
His wife, the former Jean F. Kellermeyer, whom he married February 23, 1946, preceded him in death on January 4, 2013. He is survived by his son, Tim (Ellen) Chrisman of Westlake; two daughters, Julia Livingston of Mansfield and Fran Tracy of Costa Mesa, CA; three grandchildren, Megan (Andy) Pocock of Granger, IN and Timothy and Evan Chrisman of Westlake; and two great-grandchildren, Max and Campbell Pocock.
In addition to his parents and wife, Burnell was preceded in death by his brother, Lowell Christman and his sister, Donna Huffman.
A private service will be held for the family. Interment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
