Bridget Anna Fortunato

STRUTHERS – Bridget Anna Fortunato, 92, died Friday, November 1, 2019 at Maplecrest Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Struthers. A lifelong resident, she was born April 11, 1927 in Struthers, a daughter of Michael and Anna Maria Iannetta Mignella.

In the early to mid-1950’s Bridget and her husband, James Fortunato owned Jimmy’s Pizza Shop in Struthers. She also worked various jobs in the area as she raised her family. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Youngstown where she had taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and had been the president of the Ladies Uplift Circle. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, playing the organ and reading her Bible. Bridget also sang in the Youngstown Philharmonic Chorus. Possessed with a gift for song and a vibrant personality, Bridget was known for regaling her friends and family with a tune right up to the end of her life.

She leaves behind three daughters to cherish her memory: Carolann (Roy) Weamer of Struthers, Marilyn Goldman of LaMarque, Texas, and Dorothy Grover of Struthers; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition, she leaves two sisters-in-law behind, Carmella Marini and Marie Fortunato.

Her husband, James Fortunato, whom she married January 5, 1946, died on July 4, 2002. They were married for 56 years. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Fortunato; two sisters, Dorothy Damore and Mary Walts, and a brother, Anthony Mignella.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday November 7, 2019 at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Friends may call from 10-10:45 AM prior to the services at the funeral home.
