Canfield - Brenda Lee Mack, 57, passed away peacefully, Saturday morning, November 1, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Health Center after a short illness.
Brenda was born July 17, 1957 in Salem, a daughter of Richard and Bernice Wells Hill.
Raised in Lisbon, she was a 1976 graduate of Southern Local High School. Brenda attended Harding Business College in Youngstown, received a business degree from Kent State University, and was to graduate in two weeks from Trumbull Business College with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Brenda was first employed for Gold Cross Ambulance as an advanced EMT for 17 years, serving as the Youngstown crew chief.
In 1997, Brenda created and operated Krystal Klean, a residential cleaning service which quickly expanded into commercial cleaning. The company was later renamed Global Building and Maintenance and operated until just this year. The business served Youngstown, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Western PA. The company specialized in stone restoration, crime and death scene cleanup, audio installations, and much more. Brenda also owned a second business called Precise Consulting. The company helped to raise funds for candidates, political and faith based organizations, and in 2009, the company grew to a national level.
Brenda served as a Treasurer for the Ohio Sales Tax Reform Incentive, as a former finance director for the Community of Faith Credit Union, The Midlothian Health Clinic, Fundraiser for the Greater Warren-Heart Reach Ministries, Joshua Development Corporation in Plano, TX and MIS in Cleveland. Brenda also sat on several boards throughout Ohio including The Frederick Douglass Foundation and The National CASA Association, serving as Vice President to both organizations.
She was a member of the Rotary Club of Cleveland, Junior Civic League in Youngstown, Ambassadors of Christ Community Organization, American Biorecovery Association, the Home Builders Association, the Kiwanis Club of Campbell, and the Cleveland Growth Association, and member and past president of the Ohio Black Republicans Association.
In 2000, Brenda was nominated for Working Women of the Year, received the Economic Impact Award in 2002 from NOMBC, and received recognition in 2013 as a nominee for the ATHENA award for her outstanding professional business skills. Most recently, she was a candidate for Lieutenant Governor in the last election and was the author of "Surviving Warriorship" which is to be on shelves this fall.
Brenda was a member of Victory Christian Center in Coitsville, where she served as an usher, and for many years has been an ordained minister. Some of her other community activities included motivational speaking, outreach ministry mentoring youth, and summer training programs for youth, ex-offenders, and senior citizens who need a skill and extra income. Her hobbies included art, collecting wines, and dancing.
Brenda is survived by three daughters, Monica Currie of Boardman, Marriea (Anthony) Layton of Plano, TX, and Marla Lewis of Southfield, MI; a son, Michael Lewis of Youngstown; three brothers, Thomas (Bonnie) Block, Peter Hill, and Richard Hill; four sisters, Bernice Block, Sandy Hill, Tracy Watts, and Joann Hill; and six grandchildren, Brenden Lewis, Anthony Layton, David Layton, Frances Lewis, Nigel Currie, and Tyonni Ward.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Gail Hill.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Victory Christian Center, 114 East Liberty St., Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
