Bobbie N. Hewitt

YOUNGSTOWN - Bobbie Nell Carter Hewitt passed away on Sept. 2, 2011.
She was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Cragford, Ala., to Robert and Avis R. Lashley Carter.
Bobbie met the love of her life, Master Sgt. Stanley M. Hewitt, in October 1941, while he was stationed at Keesler Field Air Base in Biloxi, Miss. and less than a month later on Nov. 29, 1941, they were married. After his discharge in 1945, Mr. Hewitt brought his wife and their two daughters to the family home on Youngstown's westside, where he had spent most of his youth. With the birth of their third daughter, their family was complete.
Bobbie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She gladly volunteered her help in many of the activities of her daughters as they were growing up. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of several leagues. Bobbie was a woman of strong faith. She found comfort in her final hours by reflecting on the words to an old hymn "His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me."
For many years, Bobbie and her husband pursued their passion for travel and visited most of the Eastern United States. After her husband retired from the US Steel Ohio Works, they divided their time between their homes in Youngstown and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. In 2000, they returned, permanently to Youngstown.
Left to cherish her memory, is her husband, Stanley; daughters Barbara (Bernard) Cardarelli of Struthers, Linda (Philip) Hulewat of Lake Havasu, Ariz. and Phyllis (Tom) Murphy of Lake Placid, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Cheryl (Rodney) Deloe, Rebecca (Brad Symbolik) Crago, Melissa (Rob) Bloomberg, Michael Cardarelli, Melinda (Brett) Hayes, Margaret (Kyle) Sheridan, John Murphy, Rochelle (Bill) Bahny and Brian Hulewat; and 11 great-grandchildren, Vincent and Jessica Crago, Zachary and Bryce Deloe, Alexis and Lauren Vukovich and their sister, Abigail Bloomberg, Jenna and Carter Hayes, and Samantha and Ryan Sheridan; a sister, Melba Peters of Harrisonburg, Va.; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Carter of Knoxville, Ky.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her stepfather, John King; her brothers, Jack W. Carter and Philip Carter; and her sister, Ruth Wheeler.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to any of the local charities that Mr. and Mrs. Hewitt believed in and supported; The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley, The Second Harvest Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity and Park Vista Retirement Community.
Arrangements are being handled by the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
As per Mrs. Hewitt's directive, there will be no calling hours or services.
