Betty Lou Miller
Youngstown: Betty Lou Miller, 91 of Youngstown, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown surrounded by her loving family.
Betty Lou was born March 9, 1928 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Edward and Ethel (Kay) Bishop. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1946 and was a lifelong Youngstown resident.
Betty Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, her soulmate and the love of her life, Merle E. Miller. Betty Lou and Merle were married on April 28, 1948, and Merle (whom she called "Pa") died on June 11, 2013.
Betty Lou worked for Penny Pinchers for 40 years, retiring in 2011, and she was a volunteer at the Youngstown Hearing and Speech Center for 20 years. Betty also proudly volunteered at Robinwood Lane Elementary school in Boardman for nearly 15 years. She had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Boardman since January of 1948, and she was a member of the Trias/Miriam Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star for 66 years. Betty was an avid knitter, which she called her “therapy,” and she was a voracious reader.
Betty Lou is survived by three sons, James M. (Nancy) Miller of Cortland, Gerald E. (Jenifer) Miller of Boardman, and Christian L. Miller of Youngstown; a daughter, Susan K. (Mark) McConnell of Alliance; a brother, Robert J. (Erla Mae) Bishop of Easton, MD; and 13 grandchildren, Erica (Trenton) Carson, Matthew (Susan) Miller, Nicole (Brian) Casagrande, Stephen (Terissa) Miller, Amanda Miller, Angela (Mark) Honsaker, Sara Sympson, Lindsay (Patrick Frances) Miller, Julie Mohn, Robert (Rachel) McConnell, Elizabeth (Evan) Rees, Katherine (Johnny) Webb, and Kelley (Mike) Blackwell. Betty Lou also had 17 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street in Boardman. Family and friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until time of services. Interment will be at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.
Betty lived at Paisley House Assisted Living for nearly three years, and she treasured her fellow residents and the Paisley House staff. In her memory, Betty Lou's family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Paisley House, 1408 Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44509.
