Betty Jones âa�" 86 POLANDâa�"Betty Jones, 86 of 2894 Algonquin Drive, died Monday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Mrs. Jones was born in Youngstown on June 7, 1920 a daughter of John & Johanna Rogina Husick. She was a 1940 graduate of the The Rayen School, and attended Youngstown State University, and the Cameron College in Oklahoma. She was a Realtor for Dell, Better Homes and Gardens, retiring in 1995 after 27 years. Mrs. Jones was a member of Holy Family Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She was a board member and former chairman for the American Heart Association; Life and honorary member of the Poland Township Historical Society. She was a former chairman for the Poland Township Zoning Commission for 21 years, past president of the Youngstown Garden Forum, Member of the Ohio National Gardeners, Life member of the Garden Club of Ohio, and member of the Pine Lee & Gleeners Garden Club. She received the Sears Foundation award for civic beautification in 1971. She was a member of the Branch board of Easter Seals, volunteered with the American Red Crossâa�a��s Blood Drives, was the YMCA woman of the year in 1992, Mahoning County Realtor of the Year in 1991, Business woman of the year in 1993. She also volunteered at Holy Family Church for 17 years helping out the children. Mrs. Jones had the honor to represent the Village of Poland when they received the National Recognition for Beautification in Washington DC in 1974, she led the renovation of the Little Red School House in Poland from 1979 âa�" 1994, established the Poland Christmas Tour of Homes, she established and organized 32 garden clubs in the area, re-established the Poland Centennial Gardens which were once known as Judge Kennedy Gardens. She also organized the Poland Beautification Program and served as itsâa�a�� Chairman, during which time Poland won the Gold Trophy for being one of the Cleanest Towns in the Nation. Mrs. Jones Served as Ohio National Delegate for the American Heart Association in Anaheim California in 1975 and again in 1976 in Miami Florida, and served on the panel for Cardiac Rehabilitation. She also served on Governor Rhodes Rehabilitation Committee for Juveniles in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties. Mrs. Jones is survived by one daughter, Beth Jones of Poland, and one grandson, Anthony Simon, Jr. of Poland Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Francis W. DiNunzio, who died in 1946, and her second husband, Daniel B. Jones, Jr, who died December 1, 1998, and five sisters, Ann Williams, Jennie Matulek, Kay Kanann, Theresa Husick, and Margaret Adams. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-7 at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland, where prayer services will be held Friday at 9:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at Holy Family Church in Poland at 10:00 AM Interment will follow in Poland Riverside Cemetery.
