Struthers - Betty J. Hoxworth, 87, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday evening, December 12, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mrs. Hoxworth was born September 1, 1925 in Chattanooga, TN, a daughter of Phineas and Martha Henry Thurston. In 1950, she and her family moved to Struthers.
After her schooling, Mrs. Hoxworth worked at the Moon Pie factory in Chattanooga until her marriage and having her three children. Once her children were older, she began working in the evenings for a company that cleaned the DeBartolo Building in Boardman.
She was a member of the former Struthers First Baptist Church and currently attended Poland Village Baptist Church. Mrs. Hoxworth was also a former member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls, angels, and anything Elvis Presley.
Her husband, Phillip E. Hoxworth Sr., whom she married October 6, 1943, died February 29, 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Barnhill of Struthers; two sons, David (Charlotte) Hoxworth of Porter, TX and Phillip (Carolyn) Hoxworth Jr. of Lisbon; brother, Phineas "Sonny" (Frances) Thurston of Chattanooga, TN; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers with Pastor Brian J. Ethridge officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Betty's family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to a favorite charity of the donor's choice.
