Poland- Betty Jane Hilbig, 91, made her transition from earth to Heaven on Saturday morning, March 28th, 2015 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Betty was born on September 9th, 1923 in Struthers, Ohio, the daughter of Clair and Grace Mauk Hilbig.
She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Youngstown and was a student at Youngstown Business College when she was hired by the accounting firm of Ernst & Young. She was their faithful and dedicated office manager for 42 years until her retirement.
Betty was active in her church, Bethel Friends, in Poland and served as church treasurer for many years. She also was very active in the Bethel Women's Missionary Union, serving for many years as Secretary/Treasurer. She loved to travel and was always up for a challenge. She didn't hesitate to ride to the top of the St. Louis Arch, or to ride the Maid of the Mist boat at Niagara Falls. She loved working crossword puzzles and enjoyed flower gardening.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Randall, and older sister Margaret. She is survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as several great nieces and nephews. Betty leaves behind close friends Dorothy, Evelyn and Ila, and friends from her church family.
The family wishes to thank her church family and friends for the many cards and phone calls over the past 7 months. They meant a lot to her.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1pm at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St. Poland, with Pastor Bobby Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Lake Park Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service from 11am-12:45pm on Saturday at the funeral home. The family asks that any donations be made, in Betty's name, to Bethel Friends Church, 2771 Spitler Rd.
