Betty J. Davis, 93, of Poland, Ohio, passed on to her home in Heaven Monday afternoon March 19, 2018 at Hampton Woods in Poland, OH.
She was born July 15, 1924 in Washingtonville, OH, daughter of Layton S. and Laura V. Smedley DeLauter and had been a lifelong area resident. She was born into a Lutheran family with her great-great grandfather establishing the first Lutheran church in Breezewood, Pennsylvania. Her grandfather, Samuel Wagner was a traveling preacher riding horseback in a seventy five mile radius for several years, with laid the strong foundation for her faith in God.
She was a 1942 graduate of South High School and had been a secretary for both the Kin-Ray Company and Commercial Shearing in Youngstown until shortly after her marriage when she began to raise her family.
She was an avid golfer, and had been a member of Fonderlac Country Club; the Seven Okas Country Club in Beaver, Pa., and most recently a member of Salem Hills Country Club. Betty was still active in a golf league in Salem to the age of 84. She enjoyed reading, especially history of peoples lives.
Her husband, Robert Davis, whom she married September 5, 1944 died July 23, 2016.
She leaves her daughter, Sandra (Bill) Stanley of Struthers, OH; two sons, William D. (Denise) Davis of Poland, and Robert E (Carol). Davis of Sargent, Texas; eleven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as two daughters-in-law, Charmaine Davis and Leslie Davis.
Besides her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by two sons, James E. Davis, and Mark E. Davis; her sister, Ruth Turnbull, and three brothers, Chester, Layton, and Roy (Bud) DeLauter.
Services will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday March 23, 2018 at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers, with her son, William officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Canfield, Ohio.
