Struthers - Bettie J. Delsandro, 81, died Monday morning, November 25, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Mrs. Delsandro was born December 13, 1931 in New Castle, PA, a daughter of the late Joseph and Vera Holstein Punio.
Bettie was a 1949 graduate of New Castle High School. Mrs. Delsandro worked in the office of Shenango China and for Strouss' Department Store, prior to her marriage. After marrying her husband, Samuel Delsandro, on October 29, 1955, she and Sam made their home in Struthers. Once Bettie raised her daughters and they entered school, she volunteered her time tutoring at the Struthers Schools and was then hired by the school as a library aid.
Bettie was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member and past president of the Struthers Firemen Wives Club.
Bettie loved penguins and enjoyed collecting them.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Samuel; two daughters, Linda Delsandro of Struthers and Sandra Delsandro of Boardman; half-brother, Mahlon Miller of Sarasota, Florida; her special friends and neighbors, the Elia Family, especially A.J. and Emma, who called her "Grandma Bettie"; several brothers in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Entombment will take place at Lake Park Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Saturday from 9-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in Mrs. Delsandro's name to the American Diabetes Association, 4500 Rockside Road Suite 440, Independence, Ohio 44313.
