Bessie E. Gossett

New Middletown - Bessie E. Gossett, 95, formerly of Struthers, died Monday evening, January 23, 2012 at the Masternick Memorial Health Care Center in New Middletown.

Mrs. Gossett was born July 11, 1916 in Cleveland, TN, the daughter of the late Isaac and Nola Womack Burris. As a young child, she moved to Struthers and lived there until eight years ago when she moved to New Middletown with her daughter.

She was a graduate of Struthers High School and was a wonderful homemaker, who could always be found in the kitchen baking and cooking. For many years, Mrs. Gossett was a caregiver for her father and husband. She also spent much of her life babysitting for mother's who worked full time and loved the children as if they were her own.


Her husband, Roy Gossett, whom she married November 23, 1935, died September 23, 1986. She leaves her daughter, Marlene (Edward) Joseph of New Middletown; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Greg) Larson of New Middletown, Kevin Joseph of Louisville, KY, and Keith (Shirley) Joseph of Boardman; four caring great-grandchildren, Joshua, Katelyn, and Kelsey Larson, and Scarlett Joseph; and her dear friend, Helen.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Floyd, and Glen Burris; and two sisters, Louise Gentile and Annette Dodson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church of New Middletown with Pastor Larry Klinker officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received today from 5-7 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers and Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Gossett's family would like to express their appreciation and thank Bessie's caregivers at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center, especially Julie and Steve, and Hospice of the Valley.
