Bernard "Bill" Cardarelli

December 11, 1941 — June 28, 2024

Struthers

Struthers - Bernard "Bill" Cardarelli entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 28, 2024. Bill was born in Youngstown, OH on December 11, 1941, the youngest of three sons born to Bernard and Philomena Popio Cardarelli. He grew up on the East side of Youngstown and was a 1959 graduate of East High School.

Bill, as he was known to everyone, entered an apprenticeship program at Republic Steel soon after graduating and became a Certified Roll Turner, a trade in which he excelled, earning him the respect of his employers and fellow roll turners. He worked through the ownership changes at Republic Steel until they closed in the mid 80's. Also talented in the building trades, he immediately went to work for various area construction companies and as an independent contractor. His work can be found in many areas, but especially in his own neighborhood where he helped neighbors and friends alike. He returned to his trade as a roll turner when he accepted a job at the newly formed McDonald Steel Corp., retiring from there in 2016.

Shortly after graduation, while standing in the line to ride the Wildcat at Idora Park, he met Barbara Hewitt, the "Brown Eyed Girl" that he would eventually marry and share his life with. His story was that if he followed her home from Idora that day, she would have to keep him. She gladly did. They were married on January 25, 1964 at Immaculate Conception Church in Youngstown.

While working at Republic Steel, Bill and a friend, Arlo Bromley, began studying the Bible together during their lunch breaks. This led to a profound change in Bill's life when he recognized his need to accept the saving grace of Jesus Christ. He then, in turn, shared his Good News with Barb, who also began her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Together, they have worshipped and served in the First Church of God in New Castle and the Simon Road Church of God in Boardman since 1971. Bill was blessed with the Gift of Helps and used that gift to the benefit of the church.

Bill received two great cards for his 75th birthday that say all the right things about him, so I quote: "Talk about a man who sets a great example. When you give your word, you keep it. When you take on a job, you stick with it "till it's done, and done right. And you do it all in a strong, quiet kind of way that makes people look up to you and think, "He's a good man." There are men in this world who gives of themselves, who pass on their time, talents, strength, and love to the people in their lives. You are one of those rare and good men."

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Thomas (Julia) Cardarelli and Anthony (Eleanor) Cardarelli.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara; his daughter, Cheryl (Rodney) Deloe of Monaca, PA; his son, Michael (Andrew Valeri) Cardarelli of Las Vegas, NV; two grandsons, Zachary Deloe and Bryce (fianceé Crystal Woolett) Deloe both of Coraopolis, PA; and his great-grandson, Dexlen Cowley of Franklin, PA.

As per his request, Bill will be remembered at a Celebration of Life Service in the fellowship of his family, friends, and his brothers and sisters in Christ. There will be services on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at the Simon Road Church of God, 4750 Simon Road, Boardman.  Family and friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church.   A private interment will take place at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Lowellville.
