Bartholomew Barbato

Boardman- Bartholomew Barbato, 94, died Saturday Oct 17, 2016 at the Hospice House.

Bart was born March 22, 1921 in Youngstown, OH. The youngest of four children of Ralph and Rosella Barbato.

He graduated from East High School, later attending Youngstown College, receiving an Associate Degree in Youngstown College, receiving an Associate Degree in Engineering. He was a member or Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.

His early employment was at Ravenna Arsenal, and later was employed at Commercial Intertech as a machine operator, progressing through many upward positions to General Foreman, and manager of Process Engineering, Hydraulic Div., retiring in 1982after 40 years of service.

Early on, he was a scoutmaster of troop #35 meeting at the Pearl Street Community Center, where he organized the first Boy Scout Explorer Post (post #1) in Youngstown. After completing their project of building two canoes, for which Bart was always very proud, they headed for Quebec, Canada their first canoe trip, which became an annual event. He was active in other youth activities, later having hayrides on his farm for seven different church groups.

He was past president of the New Bedford Lions Club, and a former secretary of the Knights of Italy in Youngstown, Past member of the Vestibule Club, Senior Altar Server at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and church choir member.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Northam of Diamond, CA; three grandsons, Richard, Stephen, and David; one granddaughter, Andrea; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis Pesa Barbato; a son, Bart Barbato Jr.; two sisters, Rose Marie LaCivita and Veronica DeSimone; and one brother, Ralph Barbato.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday 10AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, where friends may call one hour prior.

Arrangements are being handled by Davis-Becker Funeral Home, Boardman.
