Lowellville-Barbara Kay Whinery-Baird, 72, died September 18, 2011 at her home in Lowellville, Ohio. She died peacefully with her loved ones at her side.
Kay was born on June 13, 1939, in Youngstown, Ohio. She graduated from Lowellville High School and continued her education at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio. Kay worked for thirty years at Worthington Industries, Salem, OH as a supervisor. She retired in 1999.
She enjoyed the outdoors and spent many wonderful days at the family camp in Pennsylvania. Pawley's Island, SC was a favorite vacation spot for family gatherings. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and creating keepsakes for her family through her ceramics. Kay was also an avid reader and loved being a grandma.
Kay was a member of the Lowellville Presbyterian Church in Lowellville, Ohio.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hazel V. Demi Merz and Julius C. Demi.
Kay is survived by her loving husband, Burton M. Baird Sr., of Lowellville, Ohio, her children: Cindie (Orrin) Schneider of Salem, OH, Charlotte (Joe) Wells of CA, Gayle (Paul) Brideau of Phoenix, AZ, Barb (Vance) Rosler of Uniontown, OH, Barb (JR) Webb of Hermitage, TN, Lee (Chris) Whinery, Lowellville, OH, Bonnie (Bill) Schiraldi of Lowellville, OH, Burton (Karla) Baird Jr. of Lowellville, OH, and Bill (Becky) Baird of Poland, OH, her 2 younger sisters, Carol (Al) Morrison of Wooster, OH and Connie (Mike) Lind of Columbus, OH , as well as, 26 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Kay also leaves behind her beloved canine companion, Cookie.
Friends may call on Wednesday, September 21 at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Lowellville, Ohio from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will take place immediately following the calling hours at 7:15 p.m.
