Barbara A. Chapman

New Springfield - Barbara A. Chapman, 89, died October 16, 2015 at Vibra Hospital in Boardman after a brief illness.

Mrs. Chapman was born December 16, 1925 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Charles and Marguerite Findley Jackson.

Raised in Youngstown, Barbara was a graduate of South High School. She continued her education at Youngstown Hospital Association and received her degree as a registered nurse. Mrs. Chapman worked as a registered nurse for Northside Medical Center for many years before taking a position as an industrial registered nurse with General Electric in 1966. She worked for General Electric in the Youngstown Lamp Plant and retired from their Austintown Lamp Plant in 1986.

Mrs. Chapman was a longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Springfield, the Retired Nurses Association, and a charter member of Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association.

In her free time, Barb enjoyed crafting, tole painting, and tending to her flower gardens.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 67 years, John David Chapman, whom she married September 18, 1948; five children, Mark (DeAnna) Chapman of Perrysburg, Margaret Storm of Pueblo, CO, David (Alice) Chapman of Poland, John (Linda) Chapman of New Springfield, and Keith (Sherry) Chapman of Petersburg; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours. A private service was held for the family at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman. Interment was Lake Park Cemetery.

The family would like to express their appreciation and thank Vibra Hospital and St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center for the wonderful care they gave to Barbara.
