Augustus S. Day

Augustus S. Day, 81 Poland- Augustus S. Day, 81, of 4259 Dobbins Road died Wednesday morning at his residence. He was born in Struthers March 21, 1923, a son of Julia and Louis Day. Mr. Day worked at Republic Steel and later becoming the Mahoning County Road Superintendent for the State of Ohio, before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Poland Presbyterian Church and the Mahoning County Democratic Club. Mr. Day was a veteran of both the United States Army and Marines during WWII. His wife the former, Martha Julia Demeny, whom he married May 13, 1944, died January 29, 1995. He leaves one daughter, Martha Ann (Fred) Scott of Youngstown; one son, Frank (Cheryl) Day of Poland; two sisters, Eileen Gibson of Norwalk, Ohio and Hilda (Frank) Dobson of Austintown; three brothers, Cornell (Marie) Day of Poland, Rev. Harold Day of Hubbard, and Robert (Eltamae) Day of Campbell; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Vickie Sue Clark; three brothers, Louis, Leo, and Nick Day; a half-brother Johnny Sandy; a half-sister Mary Shumaker; and two grandchildren, Debbie (Fred) Sansosti and Fred Scott. Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at Cunningham Becker Funeral Home is Poland. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 âa�" 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
