Mentor - Audrey J. Nash, 85, died Tuesday afternoon at the Hospice House in North Lima, Ohio.
Mrs. Nash was born on December 25, 1928 in Elyria, Ohio, a daughter of Charles and Grace Martha (Storrs) Thomas. Audrey spent the majority of her life living in the greater Cleveland area with the last twenty years in Mentor.
She was a 1946 graduate of Elyria High School and a dedicated homemaker and mother. After raising her children, Audrey decided to further her education and begin working part-time. She attended Lakeland Community College and took courses in Secretarial Science.
While her children were in school Audrey first worked part-time for the Eastlake Police Department as a dispatcher and with its troubled youth program. Audrey continued her career as a secretary for the next 20 years with Figgie International. Up until one month ago, Mrs. Nash was working for the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library with 15 years of service as a library page.
Her interests included reading, working crossword puzzles, taking care of her many pets over the years, and competitive roller skating in her younger years. Audrey was also active in the (Eastlake) North Area Band Boosters while her children were in school, holding multiple offices.
She is survived by three daughters, Dora (Robert) Zanni of Goshen Twp., formerly of Struthers, Nancy (Christopher) Keefer of Citrus Springs, FL formerly of Columbus, and Jennifer (Bill) Dorsey of King William, VA; son, Allen Charles Thomas of Cleveland; four grandchildren, Christine, Michelle, and Rob Zanni, and Terrence Dorsey; and cousins, Gwen (John) Sheehan of Chardon and Sandy (Donny) Carawan of Engelhard, NC.
In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by an infant son, Clifford Allister Nash.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 16, at 6:00 PM at the new Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman with Pastor Robert Noble officiating.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service.
The family suggests that any memorial gifts be made in Mrs. Nash's name to the Salvation Army in Lorain County, 2506 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio 44052 or to the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library, 30 Public Square,Willoughby, Ohio 44094.
