North Lima - Audley G. Shaffer, 85, died March 5, 2016 in the Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House. He was born December 24, 1930 in Petersburg, son of the late Emmett and Helen Smith Shaffer.
Audley was a 1948 graduate of Springfield Local High School. He was a member of Petersburg Presbyterian Church and also attended New Hope Church in Boardman. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and attended yearly reunions with his Navy friends from all over the country. He was a member of the Wick Lodge #481 F & AM and retired from Wean United in 1992 following 39 years of employment. He enjoyed making Nantucket Baskets, golf clubs and bird houses. Audley loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play soccer and basketball. He enjoyed reading, was teaching himself how to speak German and loved his Saturday morning breakfasts with his buddies at What's Cooking.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen (John) Burns of Boardman and Cynthia (Larry) Maynard of North Lima; son, Randy (Lori) Shaffer of Boardman; six grandchildren, Katie, Darcie, John, Hayley, Jillian and Rachel; three great grandchildren, Ben, Myles and Alex; and two sisters, Mamie Felger of Poland and Emma Ruth Denmeade of Columbiana.
In addition to his parents, Audley was preceded in death by his sister, Ethel Burkey.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11am at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home Poland. Interment will follow in the Petersburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received prior to the service from 10-10:45am on Tuesday at the funeral home.
