Atty. Joseph D. DeSanto, 90
Poland- Joseph passed at his winter home in New Smyrna Beach, FL on February 25, 2017. He was born in Campbell, OH on March 21,1926, a son of Anthony and Jenny DeSanto.
He graduated from Campbell Memorial High School. Joseph enlisted in the United States Marines, where he received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the Battle of Iwo Jima. Upon discharge, Joseph attended Youngstown State University where he played football and received a Degree in Accounting. Joseph then attended the University of Akron School of Law.
He was a partner with his son at DeSanto Law Firm in Canfield for 36 years. Prior to working with his son, he was employed with the IRS.
Joseph was a member of the Mahoning County Bar Association for the past 49 years. He served as Secretary Treasurer for many years and received the Professionalism Award in 2006. Joseph was also a member of the Ohio State Bar Association.
Joseph was one of the founding members of the Southwestern Development Company along with his wife, Esther.
He was also a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church in Campbell.
His wife Esther, whom he married in 1949, died in 1995.
He is survived by his children, Donald (Jeanne) DeSanto of Canfield and Debra (David) McNichols of Columbus; and grandchildren, Dr. Donald J. DeSanto, Marisa J. DeSanto, Matthew R. DeSanto, and Dean J. DeSanto; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Joseph was preceded in death by brothers Nick, Michael and Anthony; and sisters, Antoinette, Mary and Margaret.
A prayer service will be held Saturday at 9:15AM at Cunningham-Becker, 270 N. Main St., Poland, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.
Friends and family will be received Friday from 4-7PM at the funeral home.
