Boardman-Attorney George C. Economus passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015. He was born in June 18, 1936 in Washington DC, the son of Attorney Constantine and Pipitsa Economus.
Attorney Economus was a graduate of Boardman High School and received his BA Degree from Case Western Reserve University and his Juris Doctors Degree from Ohio Northern University Law School.
He was a long time member of the Ohio State and Mahoning County Bar Associations, having begun his law practice with his father in 1964.
Attorney Economus was a past president of the Boardman Kiwanis Club and past president of the Boardman Boosters Club. He was honored by the Boardman Boosters by being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1995. He was a member of the Order of Ahepa, Pan Arcadian Federation, Curbstone Coaches, Youngstown Country Club, YMCA, Wick Lodge No. 481 F.&A.M., St Johns Commandery No. 20 and the Youngstown Symphony Society. Attorney Economus was a member of St. John Greek Orthodox Church, having served on the parish council.
He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, and enjoyed his many years as public address announcer for the Boardman High Football games.
Attorney Economus served on the Boardman Park Board of Commissioners for 21 years, the Mahoning County Children Services Board, Beeghly Oaks Board, Western Reserve Health Services Board, and a former treasurer of the Mahoning County Bar Foundation. He also served in the Ohio National Guard and Army Reserve.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Varveris Economus, three children, Dr. Constantine Economus (Renae) of Canfield, Katherine (Robert) Soule of Asheville, North Carolina and Attorney Basil (Bethany) Economus of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Rhonda Ann Kempe; grandchildren, Constance and Thalia Economus, Anastasia, Mary-O, William and Thalia Soule, George, Mimi and Oliver Economus; step grandchildren, Jacob and Jaime Kempe; brother, Judge Peter (Marie) Economus; brother-in-law, Herodotus (Louise) Kyriakides and several nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Thalia Kyriakides Economus and her parents, Dr. Anastasios and Katherine Kyriakides.
Friends may call on Monday, from 10:30am-1:30pm at St. John Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave. Boardman, where funeral services will follow at 1:30pm.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
