Anthony J. Romeo, 93, of Poland, Ohio died Monday morning February 26, 2018 at the Humility House in Austintown. He was born July 15, 1924 in Campbell, Ohio a son of Paul and Mary (Trimble) Romeo and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and had later attended Youngstown College.
Anthony was a dance instructor who owned his own studio for over 65 years. He studied dance in New York City and was a lifelong area choreographer who choreographed shows at the Youngstown Playhouse, the Ohev Zedek Temple in Boardman, Kent State University, and with The Kenley Players at Packard Music Hall. Many of his students went on to professional careers appearing on Broadway. He taught thousands of students from age 2 through 90. He remained active in his teaching until he was 88 years of age. Through all of his studio years, he worked with his wife by his side.
He was a member of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Lucy's in Campbell.
Besides his wife, the former, Aurelia "Rea" Spatar, whom he married August 4, 1951, He leaves three sons Paul A. Romeo of St. Louis, MO, Dan P. (Bridget) Romeo of Poland, OH, and Tony J. Romeo of Poland, formerly of Las Vegas; two sisters, Catherine Masters of Ypsilanti, MI, and Loretta (Donald) Rozzi of Boardman, OH; a sister-in-law, Gloria Romeo of Campbell; three granddaughters, Allicyn Tocco and her husband, Dominic of Poland, Adriana Kane and her husband, Tim of Poland, and Natalie Romeo of Poland. He also leaves four great-grandsons, Nico and, Gianni Tocco, and Danny and Noah Kane all of Poland.
Besides his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by three brothers, Dominic Romeo, Michael Romeo, and Paul Romeo, and a sister, Carmel Mallamo.
A prayer service will take place at 11:15 a.m. Friday March 2, 2018 at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Lucy's in Campbell. Friends may call from 5-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the Humility House, especially, Maureen, Heidi, Mary Ann and all the wonderful staff who gave him such loving care, and also Hospice of the Valley for their very special care.
