Poland- Anne (Hudak) Tarkanish, 91, formerly of Youngstown's west side, passed away with her family by her side on September 16, 2015 at Hampton Woods in Poland. Anne was born in Powhatan Point, OH on September 3, 1924, a daughter of the late John and Anna (Smajda) Hudak.
Anne was a January 1942 graduate of Girard High School. She married George Tarkanish on November 2, 1946, and they were married 59 ½ years until his death in June of 2006.
At the age of 40, Anne followed her dream and went to school to become a nurse, graduating from Choffin School of Practical Nursing in 1964. She was employed at North Side Hospital and retired in 1985 from Tod Children's Hospital.
She leaves two daughters, Georgeann (Dr. Frank) Agresta and Judith (Thomas) Sullivan, both of Poland, and four grandchildren, Antoinette Agresta of California, Gabrielle Agresta of Boardman, Timothy (Marcia) Sullivan of Royal Oak, MI and Michael Sullivan of Seattle. Anne also leaves two brothers, Joseph Hudak of Michigan, and Alec (Norma) Hudak of Girard and four sisters, Mary Semko of Georgia, Helen Baer of Virginia, Margaret (Gerald) Brandenstein of Girard, and Dorothy Mayoras of Girard. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and John Hudak.
Anne enjoyed spending time with her family, reading the Youngstown Vindicator to stay current with the news, and playing bingo. Her favorite saying was, "God has been so good to me."
Calling hours will be at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland on Friday, September 18, from 4-7 PM, and at the funeral home Saturday morning prior to a 10 AM service.
